I finally made it to California!
Last month I headed out west with my parents and friends for a trip to Napa Valley. It was a beautiful weekend to be among the mountains and go wine tasting. One of the wineries we visited was the Brown Estate.
Tucked away on a mountain, the Brown Estate is the only black owned winery in Napa Valley. Our visit to the estate turned into a three hour tasting experience; it felt like a Friday afternoon at happy hour!
Upon our arrival for the 2pm tour and tasting, we were greeted by Sean, the tasting room associate. He provided us with a glass of wine while we toured the property and he told us the history of the estate. We were guided through a wine cave which lead to a beautiful tasting room in the Brown Estate barn. It looked like a room you could expect to see on HGTV.
The tasting included five red wines. But that wasn't all. After going through the tasting of the five wines, we were joined by the wine maker David Brown, the hospitality manager April and the sales manager Eric.
They joined Sean in mingling with all of the guests that were at the winery for the 2 pm tour; allowing us to sample any of the wines we tried during the tasting again. The entire Brown Estate team was more than willing to let us taste as much wine as we wanted.
Hanging out at the Brown Estate really was a lot of fun. What was supposed to be an hour and half tour, turned into a three hour experience. I, of course, couldn't leave empty handed. I am not a big red wine drinker, so I went home with a bottle of Betelgeuse white wine; the wine we were served while taking the tour.
The team at the estate is so nice and they made everyone feel like family. If you love wine or are looking to try new wines, I highly recommend the Brown Estate. If you ever find yourself planning a trip to Napa Valley, make a reservation to visit. It is a more intimate experience than what you will find at larger wineries making it definitely worth the visit!
