Done Is Better Than Perfect

After I quit working as a stylist, I didn't see a need to go live on Facebook and LinkedIn and didn't know what type of content I wanted to share. I had spent the height of the pandemic posting content regularly to grow my visibility as a style expert.

For the last year, I've shared content here and there. Mostly interesting articles along with my own thoughts and stories related to the topics. So after a year and a half, I decided to lean into actually showing my face on camera and I went live two weeks in a row in October.

Now going live doesn't sound like a big deal, but when your office isn't set up to be seen on camera and you're not sure how many weeks you'll be able to come up with content, I could've easily found an excuse to delay doing what I know I needed to do (I had also been putting off going live for months).

But instead, I made it work with what I had; rearranging furniture in my family room to make it look like an office space on camera (being on camera against a blank white wall is not a vibe!) and going live with the content I did have prepared; not worrying about what happens in the weeks to come.

What I nervous? Hell yea!

But I did it anyway.

Do I have all of the topics I want to talk about in the future mapped out?

Absolutely not.

But that’s ok. The goal was to take the first step in a new direction and not let perfectionism hold me back from being more visible. After all, if I can move across the country to a new city, I can find that same courage to be more visible online.

So my challenge for you is to take the first step. Don’t let what you don’t have keep you from getting started because done is better than perfect.

And when you do, you just might surprise yourself.

Not only did I finally go live on social media, but I also booked a strategy call with a client who watched the first live video. We mapped out her email marketing strategy so she could create and grow her email list.

You aren't going to have it all figured out. You aren't going to have everything set up exactly the way you want, but do it anyway!
