Here's the thing about the styling industry. Each day is never the same and many times a last minute opportunity will arise.
On Friday, I had the opportunity to assist stylist Jennifer Michalski-Bray who is based in London. A fellow School of Style grad who usually assists her was unavailable, so that grad contacted me to see if I was available (the importance of having a network!).
Jennifer's client, comedian and sitcom writer Alex Edelman, was working at the AMD British Academy Britannia Awards and needed a tuxedo for the event. I was tasked with shopping and having a fitting with Alex hours before the event.
After picking up options from Ted Baker, I shopped for shoes and then met Alex for his fitting. Following the fitting, I had to find a tailor that could complete same day alterations; I needed a simple alteration completed in three hours (talk about pressure)! Thanks to Yelp, I was able to find someone. Since I am still new to the Los Angeles scene, I haven't built a network of people that I could reach out to when situations like this arise.
Everything ended up working out great. Alex wore a navy tuxedo, white shirt and bow tie from Ted Baker. He wore John Galliano dress shoes I found at Saks Off Fifth.
