Yes You Should Care About Your Vacation Attire

There are some people who, when they are on vacation, look like they didn’t put much thought into their vacation style. Then there are others who effortlessly look put together even if they are wearing a tank and sneakers. We want to be to in the second category!

While the purpose of taking a vacation is to take a break from your normal routines, it shouldn’t be used as an excuse to not care about your personal style. Going on vacation gives you the perfect opportunity to experiment with new looks you may have been afraid to try at home and step outside your comfort zone.  You may have a dress or top sitting in your closet you have been waiting to wear; maybe your vacation is the perfect time to wear it! You also won't look back at your vacation photos and regret what you wore if you take the time to plan your outfits.

Last November I traveled to Puerto Rico for my best friend’s 30th birthday. It was one of the best vacations I have ever had thus far!  When it came time to pack, I focused on creating outfits that were stylish, yet comfortable. For a tropical vacation, prints, easy breezy dresses and gladiator sandals paired with the right accessories create the perfect recipe for casual chic vacation outfits.

Here’s what I wore….

I stepped outside my comfort zone and wore a Stampd LA "East Coast" high cut (think Baywatch style) swimsuit. It was quite liberating to wear something I normally won't and strut around the beach :)

Sunglasses are a must have tropical vacation accessory. Easy way to look chic! I purchased these Forever 21 mirror cat eye sunglasses specifically for this trip. They were less than $10!

One way to look fashionable in sneakers (more tips here) is to pair then with feminine pieces like dresses. For our three hour food walking tour of Old San Juan, I paired my Sam Edelman sneakers with a LOFT denim dress.

For a night out at a local Puerto Rican bar, I paired a printed palm top with navy shorts and flat gladiator sandals.

Those short shorts you have been storing in the back of your closet because you are not sure when you should wear them are perfect for a tropical vacation. I paired my high-waisted H&M shorts with a printed tank. The look was perfect for a day at the Bacardi factory.

A printed romper is a great alternative to a dress when you're going out for dinner.  Please note, some rompers like the one I wore that are cut low, will require double sided tape so they don't keep falling off your shoulders. I, of course, left that at home and had to change into a dress before we hit the club. Couldn't be out in the streets exposing myself!

Dinner at Ropa Vieja Grill was delicious!

Yes you want to be stylish and comfortable during your vacation but you should also be practical. If you plan on participating in any physical activity like visiting a rain forest or swimming in a waterfall, workout attire, swimsuits and sneakers are a good choice.

Dress up slip dresses and maxi dresses with bold jewelry and printed accessories. My Love, Cortnie animal print clutch is one of my favorites.

If you are planning a vacation for 2016, I highly recommend Puerto Rico. Feel free to contact me for tips on where to stay and things to do.
