Small Actions Make A Big Impact
I have a confession. I crashed out a few months ago.
I was out to dinner with a friend, and I was going on and on about all the cruelty and injustice happening daily.
And I found myself questioning if I was doing enough to fight against it.
I publish a newsletter every month.
I create a platform for Black creators and entrepreneurs on my podcast
And organize events for us to give back to the community twice a year (link in comments to register/donate to the September Lunchbag Linkup).
But is all of that really making a difference?
When I finally came up for air, my friend said, "If we all focused on doing what we are supposed to do, the world would be a better place."
You may feel hopeless and unsure of what you can do to stop all that is happening. It's been eight months of chaos. However, one thing we can do is focus on at least one issue we're passionate about and go all in.
That may be serving at your church. Protesting and protecting your neighbors.
Donating to mutual aid funds. Shopping local and small and sharing those businesses with your family and friends.
You can volunteer your time and donate resources to organizations. Make your voice heard at town hall meetings. Call and email your representatives and senators. Have difficult conversations with family. Speak out online and share information.
Our acts of resistance don't have to be these large, grandiose gestures.
But whatever it is, go all in.
We were born for such a time as this.
The fight for freedom and justice isn't meant to be carried by a few heroes making headlines; it's sustained by all of us showing up consistently in our own lanes.
I'm still learning this lesson because I wish I could save everybody.
So the next time you find yourself overwhelmed by the enormity of what needs fixing in this world, remember: your job is to show up fully for your work.
Trust that collectively, we're moving mountains one small act of resistance at a time.
